Viewing Your Financial Aid Offer

To view the status of your financial aid, including any merit-based scholarships and accompanying guidelines, your financial aid offer, or notification detailing any missing documents, please log into your Application Status Check.

Please note that if you did not receive a financial aid offer with your admission decision, additional documentation may be required before we can determine your financial aid eligibility. Additional information regarding the status of your documents is available your Application Status Check. Please complete and submit outstanding documents as soon as possible so that we may continue our review of your eligibility. Commonly requested documents can be found here and should be submitted via the College Board’s Institutional Documentation Service (IDOC).

Types of Financial Aid

Gift Aid: Does not need to be repaid

Self-Help: Includes federal student loans as well as Federal Work-Study. These options may be used to reduce your out of pocket cost.

Understanding Your Financial Aid Offer

Your financial aid offer is based on the information provided on the FAFSA and CSS Profile.

Any updates to the information provided on these forms can result in a recalculation of your financial aid. In the event there is a change in your financial aid eligibility, you will be notified with a revised financial aid offer.

Your financial aid offer represents the best financial aid package Northeastern can offer to you as an admitted student. While we would be happy to review your financial aid offer with you to answer any questions you may have, award decisions cannot be negotiated.

If you believe that we do not have the most accurate financial information, such as major errors on the FAFSA and/or CSS Profile, please contact the Office of Financial Aid and describe the errors made on the financial aid aid application(s).

If there is discrepant data present in your applications or other documentation in your file additional information may be requested. Any or all of the aid programs listed on your financial aid offer are subject to change at any time during the award year as a result of our correcting or updating the original financial data provided on either the FAFSA or CSS Profile forms.

Changes in Financial Circumstances

We understand that financial situations may change after completing the FAFSA and/or CSS Profile. If you or your family have experienced a Change in Financial Circumstances since applying for financial aid, such as a loss of job or excessive unreimbursed medical expenses, please submit a Change in Circumstances request via the SFS Service Portal.

Upon receipt of the completed form, we will then review the circumstances and provide you with additional information on whether formal appeal documents will be required. Please note that additional required documentation may include, but is not limited to, documentation of income change or job loss, final pay stub(s), and/or documentation of any unemployment benefits.

Maintaining Eligibility

Renewal of your financial aid is subject to your reapplying for financial aid each academic year through the FAFSA.

• You must maintain continuous full-time enrollment and Satisfactory Academic Progress as defined by your academic program of study
• Most awards will be distributed over the required length of your program during terms where you are earning academic credit, as opposed to when you are participating in our co-op program
• With few exceptions, your eligibility for federal and state aid programs is based on need, and will be determined each academic year in accordance with regulations

Accepting Your Financial Aid Offer We assume that you will accept all the financial aid offered. If you would like to either reduce or cancel a portion of your financial aid offer, please submit your request through the SFS Service Portal.

Federal Loan Documents If you have been offered a Federal Direct Loan and will be accepting this loan, you are required to complete Federal Loan Entrance Counseling and a Master Promissory Note (MPN). Additional information regarding these documents will be provided to you after May 1.

If you were awarded a Health Professions or Nursing Loan, the required documentation will be mailed to you during the summer.

Sibling Enrollment Verification Your financial aid offer is based on the information provided on your financial aid application materials. If you indicated on your FAFSA and/or CSS Profile that another member of your household will be enrolled at least half time in post-secondary education during the academic year, you will be asked to complete a Sibling Enrollment Verification Form to verify your sibling’s enrollment. This form will be sent to you via email in early August and requires verification from the institution your sibling(s) attends.

Outside Scholarship and Resources If you receive other resources, including outside scholarships, pre-paid tuition plan distributions, or tuition remission, that are not included in your financial aid offer you must notify our office by completing the Outside Scholarship Recipient Form on the SFS Service Portal. A review and possible recalculation of your financial aid offer will occur.

Estimated Costs

Northeastern’s estimated Cost of Attendance includes billed (direct) costs of tuition, fees, and room and board. In addition to these costs, it is important to keep in mind estimated non-billed costs, including books and supplies, transportation, and personal expenses.

Below is the estimated Cost of Attendance for the 2022–2023 academic year. Please note that rates are an estimate and subject to Board of Trustee approval.

2022–2023 Direct Cost

*Estimated based on the standard curriculum (16 semester hours per term) for the fall and spring semester.

**Room rates vary depending on occupancy and assignment. Board is estimated based upon 17 meals per week.

***The total estimated direct cost does not include the Northeastern University Student Health Plan (NUSHP). Massachusetts law requires that every student in a Massachusetts institution of higher learning participate in a student health program with appropriate coverage. Students with comparable coverage may request to waive enrollment in NUSHP after they have been billed. For the 2021–2022 academic year, the cost of NUSHP is $2,299.

To determine your estimated cost, deduct your financial aid offer, including Northeastern scholarships and grants, federal and state grants, as well as federal student loans. As Federal Work-Study is earned after securing a position and earnings are paid directly to students, Federal Work-Study earnings are not deducted from billed costs.
