Undergraduate Day Financial Aid Award FAQ

Why does the financial aid award reflect the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters only?

Northeastern prides itself on a flexible learning model that allows students to craft their own unique educational experience. More and more we are finding that students are taking advantage of various flexible summer enrollment options. By awarding aid only for the fall and spring terms initially, we are aiming to better align billing information with pending summer aid and mirror students’ plans once they finalize decisions.

Will I still be eligible to receive financial aid for the Summer 2019 session(s)?

Yes! Financial aid for the Summer 2019 session(s) will be awarded to all eligible students beginning March 2019 (around the time students may begin to register for Summer 2019 courses). As detailed in our Northeastern Promise, need-based Northeastern University Grant and merit scholarship funds are committed for up to eight academic semesters, provided you continue to meet all eligibility requirements, including, but not limited to, Satisfactory Academic Progress and the minimum GPA. Additionally, provided you are enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) you will also receive any federal and/or state funds for which you have remaining eligibility and have not already received the annual maximum.

Will my out of pocket costs increase as a result of this change?

No, the only true difference is how the aid will be distributed, your annual net costs should remain the same.

Am I required to contact my financial aid counselor in March to request a review of my financial aid eligibility or receive aid for the summer session(s)?

If you are a financial aid recipient, you will receive a request from our office by mid-March for information regarding your anticipated summer enrollment plans. At that time, we will begin to process summer aid awards. In addition to the anticipated enrollment information request from our office, we will also review summer registration information received from the Office of the Registrar to determine financial aid eligibility and update awards accordingly

How will I be notified when my financial aid award has been updated for the Summer 2019 session?

Upon review of your financial aid eligibility for the summer session, your financial aid award will be updated automatically. At that time, a Revised Award notification will be sent to your Husky email. Since your summer financial aid eligibility can be determined in advance of the summer billing process, any modified anticipated funding can be reflected on your summer billing statement.

I am interested in applying for a private student/parent loan, or other funding option, and need access to the costs and aid for the full academic year. What can I do?

We fully understand that there are some individuals that have situations that require access to the financial aid and costs for the entire year. If you feel that you are in that situation, please reach out to your financial aid counselor by email or phone or visit our office, located in 354 Richards Hall.
